The Steam store, community and library pages are web pages loaded inside the Steam app. When one fails, Steam shows a browser error code:

  • -105: unable to connect to the server (the address couldn't be looked up, usually DNS).
  • -118: the connection timed out.
  • -102: the connection was refused.

You might also see "Steam is having trouble connecting to the Steam servers". Steam has routine maintenance most Tuesdays, which briefly takes the store and sign-in offline.

Is Steam down?

Check our Steam status page. If others are reporting problems, especially on a Tuesday afternoon US time, it's probably maintenance or an outage.

How to fix it

  1. Restart Steam fully: Steam menu, Exit, then reopen it.
  2. Flush DNS and change DNS server. Run ipconfig /flushdns, then set your DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8. This fixes most -105 errors.
  3. Clear Steam's web browser data. In Steam's Settings, find the option to delete web browser data (under In Game or Web Browser, depending on your version), then restart Steam.
  4. Turn off your VPN or proxy, and check Windows Settings, Network & internet, Proxy, has no manual proxy set.
  5. Allow Steam through your firewall and antivirus.
  6. Restart your router, or try a phone hotspot to test your connection.
