How it works

Site Down Right Now answers one question fast: is it down for everyone, or just you?

How we check

Our servers connect to each service's website and record whether it responds, the HTTP status code and how long it took. Popular services are checked every 5 minutes. Others are checked several times a day, and any page is re-checked when a visitor opens it.

A service counts as reachable when its server answers, even with a "forbidden" or "too many requests" response, because that means the server is up. Connection failures, timeouts and server errors (HTTP 5xx) count as failed checks. A few services block automated checks entirely; for those we rely on visitor reports and official status pages.

Visitor reports

Outages often affect only logins, apps or some regions, which a website check can't see. Visitors can report what isn't working on every status page. We compare the last hour with that service's usual level, and flag possible problems when reports rise well above it.

Outage alerts

When a major service goes down, we post an alert on Bluesky (@sitedownrightnow.com).

Our bot

Our checks identify themselves as SiteDownRightNowBot. We make one lightweight request per service at a time and never crawl beyond the address listed. To ask us to stop checking your site, email hello@sitedownrightnow.com.

Independent

We are not affiliated with any of the companies whose services we monitor. Names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify the services.
