Virgin Media broadband runs over its own cable network, so outages often hit whole streets or towns at once. If your internet has stopped, check for a local outage first, then your Hub.
Is Virgin Media down?
Check our Virgin Media status page for live reports. Virgin Media's own service status page and the My Virgin Media app show known faults for your postcode.
Fixes to try
- Restart your Hub: switch it off at the power, wait a minute, and turn it back on. It can take several minutes to reconnect.
- Check the coaxial cable is screwed in firmly at the Hub and the wall.
- Check the Hub's lights. Flashing or red lights usually mean it can't connect to the network; compare them with the guide for your Hub model on Virgin Media's website.
- Test with an Ethernet cable. If a wired device works, the problem is Wi-Fi.
- Using your own router? If your Hub is in Modem Mode, restart your own router too, and check it's plugged into the Hub.
- Report the fault in the My Virgin Media app if the Hub still won't connect.
Questions
How do I check for a Virgin Media outage in my area?
Use Virgin Media's service status page with your postcode, or the My Virgin Media app, and check a live status page for reports from other customers.
Why does my Virgin Media Hub keep losing connection?
It could be a local network fault, a loose coaxial cable, or the Hub overheating. Check for outages, tighten the cables and keep the Hub somewhere ventilated.
