What to do if Google Pay is not working

  1. Never retry a payment or transfer repeatedly. Check your balance and activity in Google Pay first, because pending transactions may already have gone through.
  2. Banking apps often go down for scheduled maintenance late at night and on weekends. Check Google Pay's website or social accounts for notices.
  3. Update the Google Pay app. Banks often block old app versions.
  4. If you can't log in, use the phone number on the back of your card. Never use a number from a search ad or a social media reply.
  5. Watch for scam messages that claim to be from Google Pay during outages. Google Pay will not ask for your password or one-time codes.
  6. Turn off VPNs when using Google Pay. Banks often block logins from unfamiliar locations.

Google Pay outage FAQ

Is Google Pay down for everyone, or just me?

Look at the status at the top of this page. We connect to pay.google.com directly from our servers, so if our check works but Google Pay doesn't work for you, the problem is more likely your device, network or account. If our check fails, or reports have jumped in the last hour, Google Pay is probably having a wider outage.

Why does this page say Google Pay is up when it isn't working for me?

Our check confirms that pay.google.com is reachable and responding. An outage can still affect only part of Google Pay, such as logging in, the mobile app or a single feature, or only some regions. That's why visitor reports matter: when many people report problems at once, we flag Google Pay as having problems even if the website loads.

How often do you check Google Pay?

We check Google Pay automatically several times a day, and again whenever someone opens this page and our last check is more than a few minutes old.

How do I report a Google Pay outage?

Use "Report a problem" on this page to tell us what isn't working. Reports are anonymous: we don't store your IP address, only a one-way code that stops the same person reporting many times, plus your country.
