We check Gmail from our servers and combine it with problem reports from visitors.
Gmail problem reports, last 24 hours
Reports from visitors per hour, in your local time. When reports rise well above the usual level, Gmail is probably having problems.

Our checks of mail.google.com
Each bar is one hour. Green: every check reached mail.google.com. Amber: some failed. Red: all failed. Grey: not checked that hour.
What to do if Gmail is not working
- Open Gmail in a private / incognito window. If it works there, clear your browser cache and cookies or disable extensions.
- Check your device's date and time are set automatically. A wrong clock breaks secure sign-ins.
- If Gmail sync is stuck, pause and resume syncing, or sign out of the desktop app and back in.
- Don't reset your password during an outage. Login errors are usually server-side and a reset won't fix them.
- Work offline where possible and keep local copies of anything urgent until Gmail is back.
- Check that your workplace or school account hasn't been signed out by an admin or security policy.
Gmail outage FAQ
Is Gmail down for everyone, or just me?
Look at the status at the top of this page. We connect to mail.google.com directly from our servers, so if our check works but Gmail doesn't work for you, the problem is more likely your device, network or account. If our check fails, or reports have jumped in the last hour, Gmail is probably having a wider outage.
Why does this page say Gmail is up when it isn't working for me?
Our check confirms that mail.google.com is reachable and responding. An outage can still affect only part of Gmail, such as logging in, the mobile app or a single feature, or only some regions. That's why visitor reports matter: when many people report problems at once, we flag Gmail as having problems even if the website loads.
How often do you check Gmail?
We check Gmail automatically every 5 minutes, and again whenever someone opens this page and our last check is more than a few minutes old.
How do I report a Gmail outage?
Use "Report a problem" on this page to tell us what isn't working. Reports are anonymous: we don't store your IP address, only a one-way code that stops the same person reporting many times, plus your country.
