What to do if Claude is not working
- Start a new chat in Claude. Very long conversations can fail even when the service is up.
- If you see a rate limit or capacity message, wait a few minutes. These limits reset over time and aren't a full outage.
- Refresh the page or reopen the app to clear a stuck response, then resend your last message.
- Disable browser extensions such as ad blockers and VPNs, which can break Claude's streaming responses.
- Check whether your plan's usage limit has been reached in your Claude account settings.
- Try the Claude mobile app or another browser to tell an account problem from a device problem.

Is Claude down for everyone, or just me?
Look at the status at the top of this page. We connect to claude.ai directly from our servers, so if our check works but Claude doesn't work for you, the problem is more likely your device, network or account. If our check fails, or reports have jumped in the last hour, Claude is probably having a wider outage.
Why does this page say Claude is up when it isn't working for me?
Our check confirms that claude.ai is reachable and responding. An outage can still affect only part of Claude, such as logging in, the mobile app or a single feature, or only some regions. That's why visitor reports matter: when many people report problems at once, we flag Claude as having problems even if the website loads.

We check Claude automatically every 5 minutes, and again whenever someone opens this page and our last check is more than a few minutes old.
