What to do if Google Home is not working

  1. Restart the Google Home app and your phone, then check whether the problem is in the app or the device.
  2. For smart-home devices, power-cycle the device and your router. Most go offline when Wi-Fi drops.
  3. Make sure Bluetooth and location permissions are on for Google Home. Device syncing often depends on them.
  4. Don't factory-reset devices during an outage. You may have to set everything up again once Google Home is back.
  5. Check whether the Google Home app has an update. Old versions often stop syncing after server-side changes.
  6. If messages or matches aren't loading, log out and back in only after confirming Google Home is up.

Google Home outage FAQ

Is Google Home down for everyone, or just me?

Look at the status at the top of this page. We connect to home.google.com directly from our servers, so if our check works but Google Home doesn't work for you, the problem is more likely your device, network or account. If our check fails, or reports have jumped in the last hour, Google Home is probably having a wider outage.

Why does this page say Google Home is up when it isn't working for me?

Our check confirms that home.google.com is reachable and responding. An outage can still affect only part of Google Home, such as logging in, the mobile app or a single feature, or only some regions. That's why visitor reports matter: when many people report problems at once, we flag Google Home as having problems even if the website loads.

How often do you check Google Home?

We check Google Home automatically several times a day, and again whenever someone opens this page and our last check is more than a few minutes old.

How do I report a Google Home outage?

Use "Report a problem" on this page to tell us what isn't working. Reports are anonymous: we don't store your IP address, only a one-way code that stops the same person reporting many times, plus your country.
