We check Google Search from our servers and combine it with problem reports from visitors.

What to do if Google Search is not working
- Hard-refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) to bypass cached errors.
- Try Google Search in a private window to rule out extensions and stale cookies.
- If you're on a school or work network, a filter or firewall may be blocking Google Search. Try another network.
- Check whether Google Search is down only in your region by trying it on mobile data.
- For assignment or exam platforms, screenshot any errors with the time showing. Instructors often accept them as proof of an outage.
- Change your DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 if Google Search fails to load but other sites work.
Google Search outage FAQ
Is Google Search down for everyone, or just me?
Look at the status at the top of this page. We connect to google.com directly from our servers, so if our check works but Google Search doesn't work for you, the problem is more likely your device, network or account. If our check fails, or reports have jumped in the last hour, Google Search is probably having a wider outage.
Why does this page say Google Search is up when it isn't working for me?
Our check confirms that google.com is reachable and responding. An outage can still affect only part of Google Search, such as logging in, the mobile app or a single feature, or only some regions. That's why visitor reports matter: when many people report problems at once, we flag Google Search as having problems even if the website loads.
How often do you check Google Search?
We check Google Search automatically every 5 minutes, and again whenever someone opens this page and our last check is more than a few minutes old.
How do I report a Google Search outage?
Use "Report a problem" on this page to tell us what isn't working. Reports are anonymous: we don't store your IP address, only a one-way code that stops the same person reporting many times, plus your country.
