What to do if ESPN is not working

  1. Restart the device you're watching on (TV, streaming stick or console), not just the ESPN app.
  2. Run a speed test: HD needs about 5 Mbps and 4K about 25 Mbps. Lower the quality in ESPN if your connection is slow.
  3. Restart your router and modem. Unplug them for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
  4. If only one title won't play, try another. A single-title error is usually a licensing or encoding issue, not an outage.
  5. Sign out of ESPN on the device and sign back in. This clears stale sessions and stuck profiles.
  6. Check that your subscription and payment method are still active in your ESPN account settings.

ESPN outage FAQ

Is ESPN down for everyone, or just me?

Look at the status at the top of this page. We connect to espn.com directly from our servers, so if our check works but ESPN doesn't work for you, the problem is more likely your device, network or account. If our check fails, or reports have jumped in the last hour, ESPN is probably having a wider outage.

Why does this page say ESPN is up when it isn't working for me?

Our check confirms that espn.com is reachable and responding. An outage can still affect only part of ESPN, such as logging in, the mobile app or a single feature, or only some regions. That's why visitor reports matter: when many people report problems at once, we flag ESPN as having problems even if the website loads.

How often do you check ESPN?

We check ESPN automatically several times a day, and again whenever someone opens this page and our last check is more than a few minutes old.

How do I report a ESPN outage?

Use "Report a problem" on this page to tell us what isn't working. Reports are anonymous: we don't store your IP address, only a one-way code that stops the same person reporting many times, plus your country.
