How to fix ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED

Updated 15 October 2026 · Site Down Right Now

Chrome shows ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED ("A network change was detected") when your computer's network connection changes while a page is loading, for example switching Wi-Fi networks, a VPN connecting or a network adapter restarting. Chrome stops the request to be safe.

One occurrence is harmless: just reload. If it keeps happening, something is repeatedly changing your connection.

How to stop it happening

  1. Reload the page. A one-off change, such as joining Wi-Fi, needs nothing more.
  2. Check your VPN. VPNs that reconnect or switch servers trigger this error. Update the VPN app or try another server.
  3. Forget extra Wi-Fi networks your computer may be jumping between, and stay on one.
  4. Disable unused network adapters, such as old VPN or virtual machine adapters: on Windows, open Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, Change adapter settings.
  5. Restart your router and update its firmware if the connection drops regularly.
  6. Reset network settings on Windows: run ipconfig /flushdns, netsh winsock reset and netsh int ip reset as administrator, then restart.

Is the website down?

This error comes from your own connection, not the website. If a site still won't load after the error stops, test it with our website checker.

Questions

Is ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED a problem with the website?

No. It means your own network connection changed during loading. Reloading usually fixes it.

Why does ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED keep happening?

Something keeps changing your connection: a VPN reconnecting, your computer switching between Wi-Fi networks, or a router dropping out.
